Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how FunDayTeam ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, and protects information when you use our website and game service (the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to the practices described in this policy. Your use of the Service is also subject to our Terms of Service.


What is FunDayTeam?

FunDayTeam is a real-time, multiplayer quiz game designed for remote engineering teams. The game features AI-generated questions based on public tech news. There are two types of users:

  • Hosts — create and manage game rooms. Hosts sign in with a Google account.
  • Players — join game rooms using a join code and a display name. No account or registration is required.

What information do we collect?

From players (no account required)

Players do not create accounts. When you join a game, we collect only:

  • Display name — the name you choose when joining a game room. This is ephemeral and is not stored after the game session ends.
  • Gameplay responses — your answers and votes during gameplay. These are shared with other players in your game room during the session and are not stored after the game ends.
  • Standard web logs — IP address, browser type, and device information, collected automatically by our hosting infrastructure for security and operational purposes.

From hosts (Google account)

When you sign in as a host via Google OAuth, we receive and store:

  • Profile information — your name, email address, and profile avatar as provided by Google.
  • Session data — authentication session information to keep you signed in.

How do we use your information?

We use the information we collect to:

  • Operate the game — create rooms, manage player sessions, and deliver gameplay in real time.
  • Authenticate hosts — verify your identity via Google OAuth and maintain your session.
  • Improve the Service — analyse usage patterns in aggregate to fix bugs and improve the experience.
  • Ensure security — protect against abuse, fraud, and technical issues.

AI-generated content

FunDayTeam uses artificial intelligence (LLMs) to generate quiz questions from publicly available tech news sources. The AI processes public articles and news stories to create game content. Player data is not sent to the AI provider — the AI is used solely for generating questions and game content, not for processing player information.

During creative rounds, players submit text answers that are displayed to other players in the same game room. These submissions are ephemeral and are not stored after the game session ends. They are not sent to any AI provider.


Cookies

We use cookies as follows:

  • Host session cookies — if you sign in as a host, we use a session cookie to maintain your authenticated session. This is essential for the Service to function.
  • Analytics cookies — we use Mixpanel, a third-party analytics service, to understand how visitors use our site and to improve the experience. Mixpanel may set cookies and collect usage data such as pages visited, clicks, and session recordings. This data is used solely for product improvement and is not shared with advertisers.
  • No advertising cookies — we do not use advertising cookies or sell data to advertisers or data brokers.

Third-party services

We use the following third-party services to operate FunDayTeam:

  • Google OAuth — for host account authentication. Subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
  • Cloudflare — for hosting and content delivery. Subject to Cloudflare's Privacy Policy.
  • Turso — for database storage (host account data only). Subject to Turso's Privacy Policy.
  • LLM provider — for AI-generated game content. No player data is shared with the LLM provider.
  • Mixpanel — for product analytics and session recordings to understand usage patterns and improve the Service. Subject to Mixpanel's Privacy Policy.

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with advertisers or data brokers. We have no advertising partners.


Data retention

Ephemeral game data

Player display names, gameplay answers, votes, and room data are ephemeral. This data exists only for the duration of a game session and is destroyed when the game ends. We do not retain player gameplay data after a session concludes.

Host account data

Host account information (name, email, avatar) is retained for as long as your account is active. If you wish to delete your account and associated data, please contact us at hello@nieuventures.com.

Web logs

Standard web server logs (IP addresses, browser information) are retained by our hosting provider in accordance with their data retention policies and are used solely for security and operational purposes.


Data security

We take reasonable measures to protect the information we collect. Host accounts are protected via Google OAuth, and we encrypt sensitive data in transit. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If you become aware of a security issue, please contact us at hello@nieuventures.com.


Children's privacy

We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of 13. If you are under 13, please do not use the Service. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will delete that information promptly. If you believe a child under 13 may have provided us with personal information, please contact us at hello@nieuventures.com.


Your data protection rights

Depending on your location and applicable laws (including the GDPR for EEA residents and POPIA for South African residents), you may have the following rights regarding your personal information:

  • Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Rectification — request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • Erasure — request deletion of your personal data.
  • Restriction — request that we restrict processing of your data.
  • Objection — object to our processing of your data.
  • Data portability — request transfer of your data in a structured format.
  • Withdraw consent — where processing is based on consent, withdraw it at any time.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we will update the policy on this page. Your continued use of the Service after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.


Governing law

This Privacy Policy is governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa, including the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).
